As the sheboss, it falls on me to let you know that theMillieDog left this world this afternoon after a short mystery illness. Last week, we had a lovely holiday in the Peak District with her where she enjoyed long walks over hill and dale despite not wanting to eat her dinners all week. She was happy enough to scrounge our snacks but refused any 'real' food and defied temptations of fresh meat and gravy. We thought she just didn't like being away from home but was no better on return so had a trip to the doctor man. She was very brave through various treatments and investigations but nothing was obvious. We did not feel it fair to put a 15 year old very dignified (sometimes) lady through anything too traumatic so today we made the decision to let her go. She'd been enjoying lots of fuss and cuddles this last few days but not really been in the mood for much else.
She's been a great dog, lots of fun and seemed to have taken to the now 2 little people that have taken over her home and life putting up with a lot of sleep disturbance especially from the second one despite not being able to hear the little footsteps approaching for the last year or so. We've all been too busy keeping them in check to do much on here but theMillieDog has accepted all the changes and shift in attention. She's going to be missed for her scrounging, clearing up the floor after everyone, paper eating (including £20 notes if not careful), hairs, warning off garden intruders very effectively, exuberance, company on camping trips, following me around, looking very sorry for herself left to wait outside shops, eater of EVERYTHING (except sprouts & mushrooms), incredibly fast running (when younger), her ability to spot squirrels at great distance, sitting on guard in the back window every evening behind the curtain, her bed as a plaything for the 2 boys, poos to hunt for on the grass, getting in the way (when older), sitting curled up on my lap for the occasional, brief cuddle, inability to stay still for more than 2 minutes, wanting to go in and out to the garden in the evenings when we want to sit still, sitting by me watching as I wrote her blog. What a dog.
A few pictures taken on her last day here that sum up exactly how she was. Can't believe she looks so well and I'm in danger of feeling guilty for everymore for being part of the decision to end it as a result although she is very thin and she couldn't be much longer for this world at that great age:
Not in the flappy house this time or only for some of it. We had a very nice house by the seaside. I went on LOADS of walks; so many that I got a bit sick of them in the end. After all, I am getting very old now - well into my 90's. I don't do so bad.

There was no one on the beaches so I had lots of time to explore and plenty of space to myself as you can see on the picture. I'm the little speck keeping cool on the wet sand near the sea. It was very beautiful and even the birds were friendly and I could go up and sniff their bums. Well almost. If I wasn't careful, they'd come and nick my food while I was eating it.

The only downside was the windy steps going up to where the she boss and he boss went to sleep. There were great big gaps in them and they were a funny shape so I was a bit scared to go up and check upstairs out. That kept me in my place. It was OK for getting a drink in the night though if they forgot to fill my bowl as I had the bathroom and toilet thing to go to.

I even went on lots of boats including a really small one over the bouncy waves that was only big enough for the three of us. I was very brave. I hope we go there again while I'm still around. I get pretty tired these days so I'm not sure how long that will be.

When we had come back on the big boat and put the flappy house up again, I was just glad to be back with my own car and things really and tried not to have to get out of the car but the she boss was having none of it. She was kind really though and didn't make me go on any more long walks. In fact, I think she went on one on her own yesterday. She looked like she'd been outside in the sun for a long time anyway and smelled of lots of fresh air. Me, I'm just glad to be back with my field. That's plenty for me even though the seaside was very nice.

The little person Bertie comes with us sometimes on the field but has to have a lift on the she boss's back. I show him all I know about it and all my favourite bits but he seems more interested in the planes and even goes to sleep. He moves fast now and I have to keep out of his way.
It's been a real long time. We've been really busy. Mainly with The Bertie. He comes to my house lots and has even stayed all night once. He woke me up a couple of times though.
He's grown loads and is a real little person now running around my house. Me and him keep a respectful distance from each other cos I'm never sure what he might do or where he might go next. In fact, I'm quite happy to go out of his way completely to let him run round all he likes. I hate to say it, but I'm showing my age now. I've had a bit of a blip with my back legs but they seem OK now. I can't run like I used to though and can't hear or see so well. Still not bad for an old timer though. I don't always hear when TheBertie comes up on me and the way he gets about, he might fall over me so I'm better off in my bed in the sun lounge.
He's very sweet really and sometimes takes me for a walk with a bit of help. He even holds my lead and looks very proud. Well, he thinks he's holding my lead but really the she boss has got it.
She has been SO busy. I've hardly seen her much. I always wait to get pleased that she's home until she takes her shoes off cos you never know when she's going to take off again.
We keep having visitors too and sometimes I'm happier to stay in the car in the warm as it's all a bit much if there are lots of people. Not everyone likes me would you believe!!
Anyway, me and she boss have had a quiet evening in with the warm fire going. We watched this . I'm very well behaved really. It made even me realise thattheMillieDoghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16924273964646079959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589802908018500961.post-21035669611327829022013-04-23T11:35:00.002+01:002013-04-23T11:35:55.272+01:00Field tripThat Beth's been here again bringing a Bertie with her. I'm beginning to think it really is the same one and so must be TheBertie. This time she came in then cleared off upstairs to bed leaving him for me to look after with the she and he boss so I took him out to show him my field. I don't think he was that impressed cos he went to sleep. He's OK though. Not bad at all for a very little person though he does make some very strange noises.
Talking about my field. Me and the she boss spent ages clearing up lots of bags and rubbish yesterday after all the windy weather we've been having. It looks a lot better now. We've decided the messiest things are the foxes who dine out there and then just leave their rubbish. The other messy ones are bosses, though I don't think they deserve that title, who bag up their dog's poo like we do but then leave the bag there! I mean, what's the point in that? Even I can see with my little brain that that doesn't make sense. theMillieDoghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16924273964646079959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589802908018500961.post-44312039196164882362013-04-12T15:41:00.001+01:002013-04-12T15:41:26.786+01:00BertiesThat Beth keeps bringing a Bertie with her every time she comes here. She can't seem to go anywhere without one. She seems to have to carry a lot of other stuff as well. I don't know if it's always the same Bertie. Are there more than one or is it THE Bertie like THE MillieDog? I'm not sure cos he looks different every time I see him and gets bigger and bigger. Talking about making themselves at home, why is it that little (white) dogs always act like they own the place? There's me and the she boss going on to MY field today for a good run in the snow when a little white dog comes out of nowhere and tries to give me a good going over for going out there. I'm happy to share my field with other dogs and their bosses as long as they respect it and remember who it belongs to but when they behave like that, I'll put them in their place in no uncertain terms. Wimpy coat or no wimpy coat. It's always the little ones as well. theMillieDoghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16924273964646079959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589802908018500961.post-36302881903190498952013-03-15T20:19:00.002+00:002013-03-15T20:19:28.426+00:00A BertieIt looks like the little person that that Beth brings around to my house is a permanent fixture to her cos they've been a few times. Apparently it's a Bertie, not just a little person. I don't mind him but I tend to keep out of the way. They've all made it very clear that I'm not allowed in the room if he's on the floor having his clothes taken off. I'm not sure I want to see that anyway and can't understand why he wants his clothes off but he seems very happy when he does.
I've got a nice new gate into my field which works very well. I'm hoping the wind gets a bit warmer so I can run without my coat. theMillieDoghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16924273964646079959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589802908018500961.post-46168875169057841152013-03-13T11:13:00.002+00:002013-03-13T11:13:17.439+00:00Show Dog

Maybe notWe've had a strange few days. We had a couple of people come round. Only they didn't ring the bell and make me jump like usual. They came in through the gate from my field into the garden instead. I don't think I minded but it seemed like the he boss did so I helped him chase them back into the field. He was a bit slow cos he had to put his shoes on first.
Meanwhile, the she boss took me instead to what were my favourite hills except I'm not so sure these days. It was very cold. So cold that the she boss took me to buy a new coat on the way home. Also, there were nasty bangs again. I told here it would be cold as well and lunch time was pretty miserable though she did give me a cuddle to keep me warm.
That Beth and Ed have been again with the little person. He made a lot of funny squeaky and yowling noises this time but he's OK when that Beth plugs him in to her. I don't mind him and he keeps out of my way. Not sure if he likes me yet. The she boss says it's a Bertie whatever one of those is. Just looks like a very tiny person to me.
I was really excited as I hadn't seen them for a couple of weeks. I'm glad to say it looks like that Beth has given up on the pies. If you remember in this post I said she looked liked she needed to cut down a bit. I couldn't believe how she was letting herself go. She looks more like I remember her now. They brought a very little person with them who made some funny noises and sat in a trolley thing when he wasn't having cuddles off everyone. I think he must have had some of mine cos no one was taking much notice of me. Apart from some different sort of smells, I can't say he was very interesting. If he comes again, I should be OK as they'll all be bored of him by then if he keeps just laying there doing nothing and I'll get a bit more attention on me again.theMillieDoghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16924273964646079959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589802908018500961.post-90700795398678775562013-02-12T19:45:00.000+00:002013-02-12T19:45:00.243+00:00And yet more snow!!

I love it. It keeps coming back and covering up my field. The best thing
in the world is running through it with my nose in it and eating it as I
go. The she boss made me famous by writing my name with a bit of help

We went to bed a couple of nights ago and then when I went out the next morning, it was all green again instead of white. I think I like the white better as my field is very muddy now again but I did miss all the colour when everything was whitetheMillieDoghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16924273964646079959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589802908018500961.post-22712328488316109482013-01-25T21:55:00.000+00:002013-02-16T10:29:19.837+00:00More snow

I'm not very keen to go out on the field with the wind coming across and try to tell the she boss but she's having none of it and drags me out there. I've met other dogs out there who feel the same but these bosses are VERY bossy.
The she boss has been kind to the birds though and has been putting lots of seeds and fresh water out for them. She even nicked some of the peanuts in shells from the he boss and put a string through them to hang up just like when she was little. Birds these days don't know any of this old stuff though and don't seem to know what to do with it. Even the squirrel hasn't been interested. Just like the little people in the playgrounds having to be taught how to play the old games as they've forgotten them all while they've watched TV and played on their gameboys. theMillieDoghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16924273964646079959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589802908018500961.post-26813288182193160272013-01-04T20:44:00.001+00:002013-01-13T21:46:54.498+00:00Life, oh lifeYou just never know what life's going to throw at you next, especially in this house. I could feel it in my bones that we were making our way to one of those days where there's lots of paper around for me to eat once people have taken the stuff out from inside but none of it followed the usual pattern.
Before I knew it, we'd packed up all the car with lots of tasty goodies and gone on holiday near the beach! In the cold and rain! We went to where the terrorising cat lives but thankfully didn't see too much of him. It was really nice and cosy and we had some pretty things around as well as the tasty things to eat.
Even better was that we went to the beach. There was no one in the sea
except someone a long way out with a board but there were lots of
sandcastles and picnics going on.
We stopped and watched for quite a while over a hot drink. It was good watching the world and their dog going by and the he and she boss nearly got a sun tan.
I actually quite liked it and could have stayed there as long as anyone liked.

We didn't stay as long as we usually do at this house and when we got home again, who should arrive but EVERYONE! - Sammy. Abimaro, that Beth and Ed. They all lived in our house for a few days and this time there was lots of paper around. It was very quiet when they all went again but we've had Ed coming and going. He keeps coming to sleep here. We followed him out one of the days and went to a new house I haven't been to before. I must say it was in a lot of mess. If that Beth sees it, I think Ed will be in some trouble. She'd have a job to catch him though cos it looks like she's eaten even more pies or too much of that nice dinner. I don't know what's becoming of her.

Today, me and the she boss went back to my favourite hills although I'm not so sure any more. There always seem to be lots of nasty bangs going on. We stopped for lunch by a rock on the grass and I hid my head under it to escape the noises while the she boss ate her bread. I was glad to get back safely to the car. You never can tell what might become of a stray bang.
Just when I thought I was safe and the she boss was staying put she disappeared again all night. She had me fooled as she only took a little bag and I thought she was just going to the shops or something although I thought the 'goodbye' to the he boss was a bit dramatic if that was the case. It turns out she got on a train and went all the way to see Sammy and Abimaro in London. I only go there in the car so I think she's very brave.
I must say the house is looking very nice and we've had some good fires to keep me warm. I like all the lights and interesting things around. theMillieDoghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16924273964646079959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589802908018500961.post-33708703655496680492012-12-09T15:43:00.000+00:002012-12-09T15:43:03.495+00:00Thieving squirrels

No longer are the squirrels content with trying to nick the nuts from the birds but now they're taking our flags. We caught one running off down the garden with some of our bunting. So what do they do with it? They've made a right mess of our nice streamers. They'd already chewed through our lighting. What next? Perhaps they're just bored with the winter weather coming on.
I've had a couple of surprises this week. Me and the she boss were out on the field having a walk/run when who should be coming through our gate our way but that Beth. I don't know what's going on but she certainly looks like she could do with some more walking round our field. It looks like she might have eaten rather a lot of pies. Every time I see her she gets bigger still. I hope she doesn't explode in our house. It could be messy.
Last night, all was quiet, all was still as I had the house to myself when who should let himself in large as life but Sammy. That was a nice surprise. He hasn't stayed long though and didn't bring Abimaro with him which would have been good as she gives me some fuss. Maybe next time. theMillieDoghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16924273964646079959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589802908018500961.post-31826968410754773102012-12-06T09:44:00.000+00:002012-12-06T09:44:56.990+00:00Driving theMillieDogThis will be me next http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-20614593 Can't wait. I haven't been cos I haven't felt much like it. I haven't known whether the she boss is coming or going or going or coming half the time and it's quite upset me. She disappears for days with loads of bags then comes back a bit but I don't feel happy until she's at least put her slippers on cos you never know if she might change her mind. Anyway, today all the boxes and bags have been going back up through the hole in the roof upstairs. I think that might be where heaven is where you go when you die but I don't know why all the boxes and bags go up there as well. Perhaps it's just them that go there to die. I feel better now they've all gone and can trust that the she boss is staying around a bit now.
She's even been out in the garden with me like the old days clearing up all the leaves. At last we can see the poos for the leaves again. That's my poos, not the she bosses. Next door have been clearing leaves as well. The difference is that their garden looks like they've cleared leaves but I'm not so sure about ours. I'll send you a picture sometime soon. In the meantime here's one we took on our field in between paddling in the lake that's there again after all the rain. The she boss had to go and try out her new wellies and they worked. Plenty more walks to come through the mud then. I will say, the he boss was getting good at taking me for walks every time the she boss went off with he boxes and bags so it wasn't all bad. theMillieDoghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16924273964646079959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589802908018500961.post-240762082908936502012-09-29T17:41:00.003+01:002012-09-29T17:43:58.260+01:00One more for you

I don't know what's been going on with the she boss really. Life's ticked along as always but I don't seem to be getting much of a say in things.
We've had some chickens move in next door but they're not very exciting as they don't come through the fence into my garden and I don't hear much of them.
We've just been on holiday to the place with the fearsome cat again which was good and I enjoyed the chickens in our garden there. Yes, before you ask, I was very good and didn't terrorise them.
It did a lot of raining while we were there but I did manage to get a couple of runs by the sea. theMillieDoghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16924273964646079959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589802908018500961.post-35706972854640327902012-06-28T19:18:00.001+01:002012-06-28T19:18:34.568+01:00More ups and downs

Today started off terrible. The sky was so dark and noisy. I didn't know where to put myself. I just followed the she boss around but she seemed to want to watch what was going on. There was BIG rain coming down as well. When it all went away and got quiet again, the she boss took me on to my field. What a surprise! There was loads of water. Me and the she boss had a good paddle and went on to the footpath too. There were people trying to walk through but it was too deep without your wellies. The she boss had forgotten that she had a hole in hers. Funny thing was, we didn't see the ducks. They've been wandering round the field for ages and now when they can have a proper swim they've cleared off.theMillieDoghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16924273964646079959noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-589802908018500961.post-77642948311717998912012-06-13T21:24:00.000+01:002012-06-13T21:24:33.174+01:00Big frightI've had a great walk today around Sutton Park which was great with lots of running, lots of squirrels, rabbits and water at the right times when I needed a paddle and a drink. I haven't had that good a run in ages. I'm going to be stiff tomorrow.
We stopped for a cuppa and there were quite a few other dogs there with their he and she bosses. I was the best behaved of the lot. They were all pretty rowdy and arguing with anyone new who came along. It was all perfect until the she boss got up to go. I thought she'd untied me from her chair but she hadn't so when I went to get going as well the chair followed me and tried to wrap itself round me. The faster I ran, the more it bashed me over the head. I was really scared and the she boss had to run fast to catch me and untie the chair. Soooo embarrassing.theMillieDoghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16924273964646079959noreply@blogger.com0
